I caught up with Kyle Ray, guitarist for the Alabama Pop-Punk outfit Carridale to discuss how he became a part of the band after parting ways with My Children My Bride and what 2010 has in store for the band
First things first. Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Kyle and I play guitar
After leaving My Children My Bride, how did you start playing with Carridale?
Well, all of the other guys in Carridale have been around the North Alabama music scene for years and I knew them from going to local shows and playing with their old bands while I was still in MCMB. When I left MCMB, Carridale had already been playing local shows for about a year. I went to one of their shows and fell in love and they just happened to be going through some line-up changes at that time, so I jumped at the opportunity.
Is it safe to say you are happier now?
For sure! I have lots of fun playing more poppy stuff, plus I contribute a lot more to the writing than I did in MCMB. Not to mention I’ve gotten to try my hand at singing a little, haha.
That’s awesome man, glad you are liking the new digs. You recorded with the band for their latest EP ‘Attack Of The Brobots’, how was the recording experience?
Well, we recorded both the ‘Attack of the Brobots: Redux’ EP and our three new tracks with Brian Hood at 456 Recordings. Brian, of course, being an ex-MCMB member as well haha, so it was a very familiar environment for me. One would think it would be somewhat tense with that history, but it was actually a very comfortable and pleasant experience. Our singer, Nathan, likes to joke that every time MCMB loses something, Carridale gains something haha.
Are you planning on releasing an EP with the new tracks?
Not officially; we recorded those new tracks more to just showcase how our sound is progressing and keep people interested. They’ll definitely be on our full-length, which, ideally, we’d like to be getting out with some label support so more kids can get a hold of it.
Are there any particular labels you are interested in working with for the release?
There are some great labels out there that we’d love to be a part of, we’ll just take things as they come and see what opportunities present themselves. It’s kind of a “we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” type thing.
Completely understood, that’s a great mentality to have going into it as well. Will you be recording with Brian Hood and 456 Studios again for the remainder of the tracks?
We’re definitely happy with the work Brian does. =]
What are your plans for the rest of 2010?
We have a west-coast tour coming up March 18th – April 20th and we have other tour plans in the works for after that. Pretty much we’ll be touring constantly and hopefully be tracking that full-length by the end of the year.
Sound’s like a full year! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this interview. Anything else you want to throw out there?
Thank YOU for taking the time to do the interview! If anyone reading digs our jams then follow us on Twitter, as soon as we reach 1000 followers we’re going to post the third of our new songs on our MySpace. Everyone watch our tour dates on our MySpace and come out to our shows and we’ll have some fun together!
You can download ‘Attack Of The Brobots: Redux on ShockHound for 8.99!
