Marc Stewart (Forever The Sickest Kids) | Interview 1.20.2010

January 20th, 2010 by admin

After working with Forever The Sickest Kids for a few years now, I have seen the band grow and develop with their relentless touring schedule and the release of their 2008 full length album ‘Underdog Alma Mater’. I had the chance to sit down with guitarist Marc Stewart to discuss the history and formation of the band, as well as the release of their sophomore album later this year.

Who are you and what do you do?

Marc Stewart. I play lead guitar in Forever The Sickest Kids

How was the band formed?

We were all in bands with each other growing up and a part of the scene in DFW [Dallas Fort Worth] together. So once our bands came to a stopping point, we wanted to continue with music and we all knew of each other and decided to jam together.

What previous bands were you in?

Me, Kyle, Jonathan and Kent were in a band called The Flipside and Austin and Caleb were in Committed

FTSK rose to fame very quickly. can you give a brief history of how the band started and how you got to where you are today?

We would basically practice and write our new songs for like 5 hours a day then we would go upstairs and sit on the computer and figure out how we could promote ourselevs and get our music out to as many fans as possible. It took a lot of hard work and dedication

I have personally watched you grow exponentially over the past few years, is there anything in particular you can attribute your success to?

We all put 100% in everything we do and are always working even when we are on “vacation”

Before you signed with Universal Motown there were a number of other labels chomping at the bit to sign you, are there any significant reasons you chose the label you did? And how has your relationship been with them?

Universal was the first label to approach us and their A&R guy was really interested in us and what we did, so they let us continue to be us and didn’t try to take over any of our projects. They give us a lot of freedom as long as we are working hard

What are your plans for the upcoming year?

We are writing the second part of the album now and will go record very soon. And we will finish the third part later in the year. We will be touring a lot as well so keep an eye out for us near you

Anything else?

We just finished a cover song for Punk Goes Classic Rock so check it out !
